The Oaks Golf Course opened in 1959 on the Christiansen family farmland just north of the city limits of Ames, Iowa on Highway 69. They operated the course until 1968, when it was sold to Merle and Marcella Barr. Merle and Marcella operated it until 1984 when they sold it to their daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve Carr.
In 1999, the Carrs announced they were retiring and sold the course to Ames residents Chuck and Deb Winkleblack, John and Pam Maurer, and Kevin Bourke. The new owners took over operations at the beginning of the 2000 golf season. On December 31, 2005, Kevin sold his portion to the Maurer's and Winkleblack's.
Chuck Winkleblack is a real estate broker with Hunziker and Associates in Ames. John Maurer is a local consulting electrical engineer and owner of Ames Engineering, Inc.
The clubhouse manager is Gina Johnson. Gina is available in the clubhouse most weekday mornings. Contact Gina if you have any tournament or outing questions, or have any general business questions.
The course superintendent is Andy Wollner. Stop in any time and say hello. If you have any concerns or suggestions about the course, let Andy know.
